Oral Surgery
At Elegance Dental located in Southington, CT, we perform a full range of oral surgeries with expert knowledge in Bone Grafting, Tooth Extraction and TMJ Disorders.
Bone Grafting
If you lost a tooth several years ago and now want to have it replaced with a dental implant; because the tooth has been missing for several years, there may not be enough bone structure to support an implant. Grafting can repair the site that has insufficient bone to support the implant. The bone is taken from the jaw, hip or tibia. The doctor begins by taking a piece of bone and using a special grafting compound, which will graft the bone onto you jaw. Once the bone graft is completed, the rest of the implant surgery can take place. As with any procedure, it is important you discuss your medical history with the doctor before surgery.
Extractions
At Elegance Dental, we believe that maintaining your natural teeth should be our main priority. Unfortunately, sometimes a tooth is so severely damaged, the only alternative left for the patient is to have a tooth extraction. There are two kinds of extractions: a simple extraction, where the dentist uses a tool called an “elevator” that loosens the tooth before removing it; or a surgical extraction, which is a more complex procedure. Both will require some form of anesthesia.
TMJ Disorders
If you have ever experienced pain or a “clicking” sound near the jaw joint, you might have TMJ Disorder. TMJ stands for temporomandibular joint, a joint on the left and right side, connecting your jaw to your skull. TMJ disorders can lead to more serious problems, so early detection and treatment are important. The symptoms can develop over time for many reasons. If you grind your teeth in your sleep or tighten your jaw muscles when stressed, chances are you could develop TMJ. Whatever the cause, you could end up with a misaligned bite, pain, a clicking sound near the jaw joint or trouble opening your mouth wide. Our dentist at Elegance Dental will perform an evaluation to confirm the diagnosis and determine the proper course of treatment.
