Professional Teeth Cleaning

During your first visit, our hygienist will perform a thorough cleaning. This will not only improve your oral hygiene but will also allow for a more thorough examination. Prior to the cleaning, the hygienist will examine each tooth individually for cavities, decay, or other issues, and record that information. Then, the hygienist will begin to remove plaque and tartar using a “scaler” tool that helps to scrape away plaque and tartar buildup. Don’t be alarmed by the scraping sound, that’s just the tool doing its job. Once the scaling is complete, the hygienist will floss each tooth to remove any additional debris or plaque. The cleaning will be completed with a polishing pad and paste.

Oral Cancer Screening

Research has proven that early detection of mouth cancers is critical to successful treatment. Elegance Dental will examine each patient for any signs of cancerous or precancerous abnormalities. During your exam, the dentist will ask several questions about your general health, and specifically about your mouth, teeth, lips, and gums. The dentist will then examine your entire mouth for any abrasions, white or discolored spots, or redness and swelling. If you notice an abnormality that lingers for more than two weeks, have it checked by your dentist. Smoking and alcohol use have been proven to contribute to the development of oral cancers.
