Composite Bonding

Composite Bonding

At Elegance Dental located in Southington, CT, our mission is to help our patients repair their teeth so they can feel confident when they smile. Too many people are embarrassed by the appearance of their teeth. Fortunately, composite bonding is an excellent means for patients to improve the appearance of their teeth.

How does Composite Bonding help?

Our qualified dentist at Elegance Dental will take a tooth-colored resin and apply it to your teeth. Composite bonding can be used to improve coloring, repair teeth damaged due to decay or chipping, close gaps between teeth and improve the shape and appearance of your smile. Our experienced cosmetic dentist will select the resin to perfectly match the rest of your teeth to ensure your bonding looks natural.

How does Composite Bonding work?

Composite bonding is a simple and straightforward procedure. Unlike veneers, which can take several visits to complete, composite bonding is completed during a single visit and is a less expensive treatment, which makes it an excellent alternative. Composite bonding is done with minimal preparation. An anesthetic is not needed unless the bonding is being used to fill a decayed section of your tooth.

Direct Composite Bonding and Adhesive Bonding

When using Direct Composite Bonding, the doctor will use a tooth-colored resin to fill in any cavities, repair chipped or cracked teeth, close gaps formed between teeth and build up worn-down edges of the tooth. The material is placed and sculpted to the surface of the tooth that shows the most when you smile.

With Adhesive Bonding, the doctor attaches a restoration to the tooth. After the dentist chooses the color that matches the shade of your teeth perfectly, the surface of the tooth is roughened using a mildly acidic solution. The doctor then removes the roughing agent and applies a liquid bonding material. The tooth-colored resin is applied to the tooth, shaped and smoothed out to its desired shape. Lastly, the resin is then hardened using a curing light. The steps are repeated until the composite has reached its final form. As a final step, the doctor will polish the material until it matches the rest of the tooth surface.
